Overview

The most common release is 9.0.3216.50, with over 76% of all installations currently using this version. During setup, the program creates a startup registration point in Windows in order to automatically start when any user boots the PC. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The primary executable is named Activate.exe. The setup package generally installs about 63 files and is usually about 703.02 KB (719,892 bytes). The installed file WebUpdate.dll is the auto-update component of the program which is designed to check for software updates and notify and apply them when new versions are discovered.

This program is pre-installed on the PC

Pre-installed software such as this is usually included by default on the

manufacturer's PC. Many OEM (original equipment manufacture) software that is included with a new PC is useful and in many cases required for the PC to function properly as in the case of various software drivers. However, some pre-installed software is optional and can be safely removed.
CyberLink PowerDVD 9 is typically pre-installed with Acer computers.
Some users and experts alike have reported that this program is considered bloatware or bundleware. Such software is optional and can be safely removed if you do not utilize the features of the progam.
  • It is usually licensed for use only on the Acer PC on which it was pre-installed.
  • It is often time or functionally (lite version) limited for Acer computers.
  • If you do not use this program you might consider remvoing it as it often consumes system resources, even if not actively being run, adversely affecting system responsiveness.

portable USB Safely Remove Portable.exe

Current Version: 1.3.0.4

A program that allows you to quickly remove drives in Windows. It can eject USB disks, Firewire disks and memory cards. It is a quick, flexible, portable alternative to using Windows’ “Safely Remove Hardware” dialog.
It will work on any version of Windows from XP onwards, that includes:
  • Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10 (32 and 64 bit)
  • Windows Server versions are untested by me but have been reported to work.

What makes this so useful?

It is quick. Rather than clicking through the “Safely Remove Hardware” dialog you can very quickly remove drives or card media. You can even create shortcuts or hotkeys to eject a drive.
It is simple. The program is designed to be easy to use and its advanced options are hidden so that they dont get in the way.
It is portable. It can be stored and used on a removable device like a pen drive. It can even eject the disk that it is running from. It doesnt require administrator rights and doesnt need installing.
It is flexible. There are many features that can be customised such as hotkeys, positioning, notifications and post-eject actions.
It can be run as a command line program. The command line options are very flexible, they can be used to:
  • Eject the drive that the program is running from.
  • Eject a drive by specifying a drive letter.
  • Eject a drive by specifying a drive name.
  • Eject a drive by specifying a mountpoint
  • Eject a drive by specifying a partial drive name.
So you could setup a desktop shortcut or bat file to eject a drive. Or if you use a menu such as PStart or the Portable Apps launcher you could use the command line switches so that with one click the menu will exit, the program will run and the drive will be ejected. See the ‘Command Line’ section in the readme for more information.
It can eject disks when Vista cant. On Windows Vista, disks often cant be ejected because they have an open explorer window. Other versions of Windows will close any explorer windows belonging to a disk but Vista often doesnt – so USB Disk Ejector closes it before ejecting.
It can eject disks when Windows sometimes cant. If any applications are running from a disk then Windows wont be able to eject it. USB Disk Ejector can detect and auto-close any applications running from the disk before ejecting. Please note this closes applications that were launched from the disk not applications that have opened a file on the disk. See the limitations section in the readme for more information.
It is small. Less than 1.5MB (when UPX compressed)

Picasa 3 Portable Portable.exe

Picasa is a closed-sourse application by Google then manages, organizes and allows you to edit images on your PC in digital albums.
To use Picasa with/within PortableApps, you must download Picasa 3 separately, install it, then execute the Portable Application Launcher linked-to above. This second step is needed because of licensing restrictions on the distribution of Googles' program.
Although the application launches and runs, the following issue exists: Photo folder paths and settings arent kept when moving from machine to machine. I know the cause and am actively working to release a fixed version. If you'd like to test it anyway and see if other bugs exist, feel free to download.

Interface

You can easily choose and move to the function you require without trawling through loads of menus and confusing tabs. Although it will take a little time and experimentation to discover what everything does and where it is located just have fun with updating and changing your photographs.
Pros
This great program can be used worldwide as it supports 34 languages and rising. It is capable of taking multiple photographs and combining them to make one overall photograph either horizontally or vertically like a collage giving a professional look that can be used as a banner for a website. You can split a photograph into pieces and zoom right in on images. Why not animate your favorite photographs or make them into a flowing slideshow? The whole host of features including red eye removal, evening out of skin tone, resizing, adjustment of color, brightness and balance comes as standard. You can even make photographs look like antique photographs or turn them into black and white images.
Cons
PhotoScape is really a basic photo editor and it does not have support of raw format. Although the interface is simple looking and the design is great with everything at a glance, using the program takes a little more time to get to grips with, as the editor is more complicated to use than the interface suggests. However, like all paint programs it takes time to get to know and the tutorials that are provided are every helpful. They say practice makes perfect. One final niggle is that PhotoScape is only available in a Windows version; no MAC version is available.
Alternatives
Photoshop is a well-known photograph editor but it has a lot of complicated features when compared to PhotoScape which can do just as great a job, especially for those beginners who are unfamiliar with the standard editing options.
Conclusion

For a free program, PhotoScape does ever

Portable version of the free image writing utility ImgBurn

Burning CD and DVD images can be done with a lot of software solutions that can be found on the market, but what if you wish to do the whole thing on the go, without wasting time, only a few applications are worth trying.
ImgBurn already has millions of users and fans out there thanks to its powerful CD and DVD images burning features. Now you can enjoy the same great functions from the portable version that you can carry with you anywhere and run it from any storage device.
The interface is simple and clean so there should be no problems in using the software even for less experienced users. Operating ImgBurn is not difficult at all, you just have to choose the option you want, pick the files to be written on the disc and that's it.
Of course, ImgBurn, be it portable or not, is much more than that. With its help you can write or create disc images, even bootable ones, simply verify the CD or DVD as well as burn some files.
The 'Settings' menu offers a huge amount of configurations for you to choose from. You can set up the read and write options, image creation even registry customizations are available.

CCleaner Portable

CCleaner is an easy to use, safe, well-known drive cleaner with other additional features including a conservative registry cleaner, startup manager and more. Video tutorial available. CCleaner uses the same, familiar three tab interface it always has with the first tab showing you the main choices including Cleaner, Registry, Tools, and Options. The second tab lets you choose any settings before you run it. The third tab shows you what is happening and what was done. The drive cleaner and registry cleaner are both conservative. There are drive cleaners out there that can clear more space if needed, but they aren't as safe as CCleaner. While we don't recommend you clean your registry, again, CCleaner is very conservative, and I've never had an issue after thousands of uses. Under Tools, you can find many other tools if you want to clean and speed up your PC more. There's an uninstaller, startup manager, browser plugin manager, system restore and drive wiper. It also has a disk analyzer to see where space is being wasted as well as a duplicate file finder. Finally, there are many more options allowing you to whitelist cookies, include or exclude files or folders, monitoring, and more.
